South Sudan gained independence from Sudan in 2011 but has since been plagued by internal conflict and ethnic violence. In addition to the violence, South Sudan faces severe economic challenges, with many people lacking access to basic necessities like food and clean water. The country also struggles with crime, particularly in urban areas where law enforcement is weak.
