7Courchevel Altiport, France
Located in the French Alps, Courchevel Altiport is used mainly by small aircraft and helicopters serving skiers heading to the resort. This airport is dangerous for several reasons: it has a runway that is just 525 meters (1,722 feet) long and slopes upward at an 18.5% gradient. The short runway and steep incline make landing and takeoff exceptionally challenging. Adding to the danger, the surrounding mountainous terrain requires pilots to make precise, tight turns. Only experienced pilots are allowed to operate at this altiport, as even a small mistake could have catastrophic consequences.
