3Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland

Perched dramatically on a rocky outcrop overlooking the North Sea, Bamburgh Castle is one of the most striking castles in England. Its origins date back to the Anglo-Saxon era, and it later became a Norman fortress.

Today, the castle houses fascinating exhibits on local history, including its role in the Victorian era as a restoration project by industrialist William Armstrong. The views from the castle walls, stretching across the beach and sea, are simply breathtaking.
