For a Thanksgiving vacation rich in history and culture, Washington, D.C., is an excellent choice. The nation’s capital is home to many iconic landmarks, including the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the U.S. Capitol.

During Thanksgiving, visitors can take advantage of the many free museums, such as the Smithsonian Institution, the National Gallery of Art, and the Museum of American History. Washington, D.C., also hosts the annual Thanksgiving Day Trot for Hunger, a 5K race that benefits the homeless. After a day of sightseeing, you can enjoy a Thanksgiving meal at one of the city’s fine dining restaurants or cozy taverns.
