The Shetland Islands in Scotland come alive each January with the fiery spectacle of Up Helly Aa, a festival that celebrates Viking heritage. Held on the last Tuesday of January, this event pays homage to the islands’ Norse ancestry and marks the end of the Yule season.
The centerpiece of the festival is a life-sized Viking longship, built with incredible craftsmanship.
