9Not Doing Enough Research on Local Transportation

Assuming public transportation works the same everywhere is a classic travel oversight. Some cities have excellent metro systems, others rely on buses or trams, and in rural areas, schedules can be infrequent or nonexistent.
What to do instead: Spend a few minutes before each stop looking into how people get around. Apps like Citymapper or Google Maps (with offline maps downloaded!) can be lifesavers. Don’t forget to check if you need to validate your bus or train ticket before hopping on.
