8Nisyros – The Volcanic Wonder

Tucked between Kos and Tilos in the Dodecanese, Nisyros is a small island with a powerful presence. Its most striking feature is its active volcano, one of the few in Greece where you can walk inside the crater.

In summer, tour boats bring day-trippers, but off-season you’ll have the steaming landscape almost to yourself. The whitewashed villages of Mandraki and Nikia, with their colorful doors and mosaic courtyards, offer an authentic glimpse of local life. Add in thermal springs and a laid-back atmosphere, and Nisyros becomes a true hidden gem.
