After decades of dictatorship and ongoing political instability, women in Sudan face severe challenges. While the 2019 revolution brought hopes of reform, the societal norms and systemic barriers remain deeply entrenched. Sexual violence is frequently used as a weapon during conflicts, and women often endure domestic violence with little to no legal recourse. Child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM) are still widespread practices in rural areas, making life particularly harsh for young girls.
