Since the Taliban regained control in 2021, Afghanistan has been one of the most oppressive countries for women. Girls and women are banned from attending schools and universities, working in most professions, or traveling without a male guardian. Forced marriages, domestic violence, and honor killings remain widespread. Healthcare for women is scarce, and women face harsh penalties for even minor infractions of the Taliban’s strict interpretation of Islamic law.
