7Arg-é Bam – Iran (circa 500 BC)

This awe-inspiring citadel in southeastern Iran was once a thriving Silk Road city. Built from sun-dried mud bricks, Arg-é Bam is believed to have originated during the Achaemenid Empire. It flourished for centuries before being nearly destroyed by an earthquake in 2003. Restoration efforts are ongoing, aiming to preserve this unique example of Persian desert architecture.
