10Citadel of Aleppo – Syria (circa 3000 BC)

Towering over the city of Aleppo, this ancient citadel has been a strategic fortress for millennia. Archaeological evidence suggests that human use of the site dates back to at least the 3rd millennium BC. The fortress we see today was heavily developed during the 12th and 13th centuries by the Ayyubids. Despite suffering damage in recent years, the Citadel remains a monumental symbol of Aleppo’s layered and resilient history.
