Also situated in Athens, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, or Olympieion, is an impressive testament to the grand ambitions of the ancient Greeks.

Dedicated to Zeus, the king of the gods, its construction began in the 6th century BCE but was only completed by Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century CE. The temple once housed a colossal gold and ivory statue of Zeus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
