4Gibraltar International Airport, Gibraltar

Gibraltar International Airport is unique in that its runway intersects with the main road leading into the British Overseas Territory. Every time a plane lands or takes off, the road has to be closed to allow the aircraft to pass, making it one of the few airports where planes and cars cross paths. The runway is short—just 1,829 meters (6,000 feet)—and it juts out into the sea, leaving no room for mistakes. Wind patterns around the Rock of Gibraltar add further complexity, often causing severe turbulence during landing.
