9Princess Juliana International Airport, Saint Martin
While Princess Juliana International Airport on the Caribbean island of Saint Martin is stunningly scenic, it’s also one of the most dangerous in the world. The runway is just over 2,000 meters (7,546 feet) long and is positioned right next to the ocean. What makes it truly perilous is the approach: planes have to fly extremely low over a public beach, sometimes just 50 feet above sunbathing tourists, before touching down. The narrow runway and proximity to the beach make landings thrilling for passengers and frightening for pilots.
