3Vergina (Aigai)

Vergina, in northern Greece, is home to the royal tombs of the ancient Macedonian kings, including Philip II, the father of Alexander the Great. The underground museum is uniquely designed around the tombs themselves, housing treasures like golden wreaths, ceremonial armor, and painted friezes. Off-season, the site becomes almost reverent, letting you appreciate the history of Macedonia without jostling for space.
