2The Antikythera Mechanism

Discovered in a shipwreck off the coast of the Greek island of Antikythera in 1901, the Antikythera Mechanism is a remarkable ancient device believed to be the world’s oldest analog computer.

Dating back to the 1st century BCE, this intricate mechanism was used to predict astronomical positions and eclipses, demonstrating the advanced scientific knowledge of ancient Greek astronomers and engineers. Today, fragments of the Antikythera Mechanism are housed in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens.
