7Great Smoky Mountains National Park (Tennessee & North Carolina)

Nestled on the border of Tennessee and North Carolina, Great Smoky Mountains National Park is famous for its mist-covered mountains and diverse ecosystems. In autumn, the park bursts into a dazzling display of colors, with brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows painting the vast forests. The park is home to over 100 species of native trees, including oaks, hickories, and maples, which all contribute to this incredible array of colors.

Clingmans Dome, the highest point in the park, offers panoramic views of the Smoky Mountains dressed in their fall finest. Hikers will love the Alum Cave Trail and the Chimney Tops Trail, both of which provide stunning views of the autumn landscape. The fall foliage typically peaks in mid-October at higher elevations, but the colors linger into early November in the lower areas, giving visitors a long window to catch the park in its autumnal glory.
