9Fly Geyser, USA: A Surreal Rainbow-Colored Hot Spring
Fly Geyser, located in the Nevada desert, is a stunning yet strange geothermal formation that seems like something from another planet. This multicolored geyser was accidentally created in 1964 when a well-drilling operation struck a geothermal pocket. The well was left uncapped, and over time, the minerals in the water built up to form a series of striking rainbow-colored terraces.
The geyser continuously spews hot water, and the mineral deposits have created a mound that now stands about 12 feet (3.7 meters) high. The vibrant colors are the result of various algae that thrive in the hot, mineral-rich water. Fly Geyser is located on private land, and while it isn’t easily accessible to the public, it remains one of the most surreal and weirdest natural formations in the world.
