10Taktshang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), Bhutan

Perched on the side of a cliff in the Paro Valley, Tiger’s Nest Monastery is one of Bhutan’s most iconic landmarks. Built in 1692, this Buddhist monastery clings to a rock face 3,000 feet above the valley floor. According to legend, Guru Padmasambhava, a revered Buddhist figure, flew to this site on the back of a tigress and meditated in a cave, making it a sacred pilgrimage site. The trek to Tiger’s Nest is both challenging and rewarding, offering breathtaking views of the lush valley below and a deep sense of spiritual connection upon reaching the top.
