Taken by astronaut William Anders during the Apollo 8 mission, “Earthrise” is one of the most powerful and awe-inspiring photographs ever captured.

It shows Earth rising above the Moon’s horizon, a tiny blue-and-white sphere floating in the vast blackness of space. This image fundamentally changed humanity’s perspective on its place in the universe.
