1Step 5: Bake and Cool
Preheat your oven to 350°F as the dough completes its final rise. For added moisture during baking, place a small dish of water on the lower rack of the oven. Brush the top of the dough with a beaten egg to give it a golden, glossy finish. If desired, score a shallow cross on the surface with a sharp knife to give your panettone a traditional appearance. Bake the panettone for 35 to 40 minutes, or until it’s beautifully golden and a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. If the top begins to brown too quickly, cover it loosely with aluminum foil. Once baked, allow the panettone to cool in its mold for ten minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
