2Palmyra – Syria

Once an oasis in the Syrian desert, Palmyra was a thriving trade city in the Roman Empire, connecting the East and West via the Silk Road. The city flourished between the 1st and 3rd centuries CE and became known for its grand temples, colonnaded streets, and intricate sculptures. Unfortunately, Palmyra suffered greatly from war and destruction in recent years, but its ancient ruins remain a testament to its former grandeur and cultural significance.
