3Troy – Turkey
The ancient city of Troy, immortalized in Homer’s Iliad, was long thought to be a myth until it was rediscovered in the 19th century by archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann. Located in modern-day Turkey, Troy was the site of the famous Trojan War and played a significant role in Greek mythology. The ruins of the city reveal several layers of occupation, dating back to 3000 BCE. Though it was eventually abandoned, Troy’s rediscovery confirmed its place in both history and legend.
