1Hattusa – Turkey

The capital of the Hittite Empire, Hattusa, was a powerful city in Anatolia (modern-day Turkey) around 1600 BCE. Known for its massive stone walls, grand temples, and royal palaces, Hattusa was the political and religious center of the Hittite civilization.

The city was abandoned around 1200 BCE, likely due to invasions and internal strife, and was rediscovered in the 19th century. Excavations have revealed cuneiform tablets that offer insights into Hittite law, diplomacy, and religion.
