5Fairy Meadows Road, Pakistan
Fairy Meadows Road, located in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan, is a narrow and treacherous road that leads to the base camp of Nanga Parbat, the world’s ninth-highest mountain. The road is unpaved, and in many places, it’s no more than a rough dirt track that clings to the edge of steep cliffs. The road is just wide enough for a single vehicle, and there are no guardrails or barriers to prevent vehicles from plunging into the deep ravines below. Fairy Meadows Road is only accessible by jeeps driven by local experts, but even for them, the journey is fraught with peril.
