Alaska’s James Dalton Highway, also known simply as the Dalton Highway, stretches 414 miles from Fairbanks to Deadhorse. Originally built to serve the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System, this remote road is infamous for its harsh conditions. The highway is mostly gravel, with poor traction and frequent potholes. Extreme weather, including blizzards and subzero temperatures, adds to the danger.
