5Schönbrunn Palace, Austria
Vienna’s Schönbrunn Palace, with its 1,441 rooms, is a masterpiece of Baroque architecture and was the summer residence of the Habsburgs. The palace and its gardens illustrate the tastes, interests, and aspirations of successive Habsburg monarchs. Notably, it was here that a six-year-old Mozart performed for Empress Maria Theresa. The Gloriette, an elegant structure overlooking the gardens, offers a panoramic view of Vienna, symbolizing the Habsburgs’ power and the cultural prominence of their empire.
