7Lightning Can Travel Over 10 Miles
Contrary to popular belief, lightning doesn’t always strike directly below the storm clouds. Lightning can travel significant distances from the thunderstorm that generated it. Some lightning bolts can strike up to 10 miles away from the storm, a phenomenon known as “cloud-to-ground lightning.” This means that even if you’re not directly under a thunderstorm, you could still be at risk of a lightning strike.
