4Petra, Jordan

Often referred to as the “Rose City,” Petra is a remarkable archaeological site in southern Jordan. This ancient city, carved into the rose-red cliffs of the Jordanian desert, was the capital of the Nabatean Kingdom around 312 BCE.

The highlight of Petra is the Al-Khazneh, or the Treasury, a magnificent sandstone façade, but the entire city is a marvel of ancient engineering and architecture.
