5The Eiffel Tower Changes Height with the Seasons
The Eiffel Tower may appear as a sturdy and unchanging structure, but it actually changes height slightly depending on the temperature. Because the tower is made of iron, it expands and contracts with temperature changes. During the hot summer months, the Eiffel Tower can grow up to 6 inches (15 centimeters) taller as the iron expands. In the winter, the iron contracts, returning the tower to its original height of about 1,083 feet (330 meters).
