5Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Athens, Greece
Located on the slopes of the Acropolis in Athens, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus is a stunning stone theatre that was completed in 161 CE. Built by the Roman senator Herodes Atticus in memory of his wife, this theatre was designed for musical performances and could hold about 5,000 spectators.
The theatre’s semi-circular design, tiered seating, and high stone walls make it a prime example of Roman-era theatres in Greece. Though it fell into disrepair after antiquity, the Odeon has been restored and is now a premier venue for concerts and performances during the annual Athens Festival, offering a magnificent backdrop with the Acropolis towering above.
