The Great Mosque of Aleppo, also known as the Umayyad Mosque, was one of the oldest and largest mosques in the Syrian city of Aleppo. Originally constructed in the 8th century, it had undergone several restorations and expansions. The mosque’s minaret, a significant example of Islamic architecture, stood tall for over a thousand years. However, during the Syrian Civil War, the mosque suffered extensive damage, and its minaret was destroyed in 2013. This loss was a significant blow to Islamic heritage and Syrian cultural history.
