Rising like a fairytale castle from the forests of Compiègne, Château de Pierrefonds is a striking example of Gothic Revival architecture. Originally built in the 14th century, the castle was largely restored in the 19th century by architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc under the orders of Napoleon III.
