Mount Rushmore, with its colossal carvings of four American presidents’ faces, is a famous symbol of U.S. history. While the monument is impressive in terms of craftsmanship, many visitors are surprised to find that the monument is smaller than expected when seen in person. Additionally, the surrounding area is quite remote, with little else to do, so the journey can feel long for what turns out to be a short visit. The viewing platforms are also quite far from the monument, making it hard to see the details in the sculptures.
