The lake’s color comes from the presence of Dunaliella salina algae, which produces beta-carotene, a pigment also found in carrots. Hutt Lagoon is one of the largest sources of beta-carotene in the world, and its vibrant hues attract photographers and tourists alike. The lake’s colors are most vivid in the late afternoon or at sunset, when the light enhances its rosy tones.
