9Laguna Colorada, Bolivia
Located in Bolivia’s remote Altiplano region, Laguna Colorada (Red Lagoon) is a shallow, saltwater lake that displays a range of colors from red to pink to white. The lake’s reddish-pink color is due to the red algae that thrive in its waters. Situated at an altitude of over 4,000 meters (13,000 feet), this high-altitude lake is also a haven for Andean flamingos, whose vibrant pink plumage complements the lake’s colors. The combination of the lake’s unusual hues and the surrounding snow-capped mountains creates a stunning and surreal landscape.
