9Bioluminescent Bays
Bioluminescence is a phenomenon where certain organisms, such as plankton, produce light through chemical reactions. When disturbed by movement in the water, these organisms emit a glowing blue or green light, creating a surreal and magical effect. The most famous bioluminescent bays can be found in Puerto Rico, such as Mosquito Bay in Vieques and Laguna Grande in Fajardo.
Swimming or kayaking through these glowing waters feels like entering another world, where the ocean comes alive with every movement. The contrast between the dark water and the glowing light makes this one of the most enchanting natural phenomena on the planet.
