5Annual Swearing-in Ceremony

Every year on May 6th, the Swiss Guard commemorates new recruits joining its ranks.

The ceremony, held on the anniversary of the Sack of Rome, includes a solemn oath-taking ritual and the blessing of the recruits’ halberds (a type of polearm).
