1Islas Ballestas, Peru
The Islas Ballestas, sometimes called the “poor man’s Galápagos,” are a group of islands off Peru’s southern coast, rich in wildlife and unique rock formations. Although often overshadowed by Machu Picchu and Lima, the Islas Ballestas offer incredible biodiversity, with colonies of sea lions, Humboldt penguins, and a variety of seabirds. A boat tour around the islands allows visitors to witness these animals in their natural habitat while enjoying views of the rugged Pacific coast.
