Bruges, often called the “Venice of the North,” is known for its medieval architecture, picturesque canals, and charming atmosphere. However, like Venice, the small city has struggled with overtourism, particularly from day-trippers who arrive in large numbers but spend very little. This influx has led to overcrowded streets and a growing sense of frustration among locals. In response, the city has started promoting longer stays over day trips, implementing crowd-control measures, and limiting new hotel developments.
