Dubrovnik, famously known as the setting for “Game of Thrones,” has seen a significant surge in visitors over the last decade, with tourism numbers more than doubling. While the show brought global attention to the city’s historic beauty, it also attracted mass tourism that overwhelmed the medieval streets and caused wear and tear on its ancient walls. In an effort to manage the situation, Dubrovnik has implemented measures like limiting the number of cruise ships allowed to dock each day and capping the number of visitors to its UNESCO-protected Old Town. The city has also introduced fines for bad behavior, encouraging more respectful and mindful tourism.
